Recorded at the Loft in Cologne, the work radiates a powerful kinetic energy that is carried by the telepathic interplay and unique melodic sound language of this top-class European piano trio. During the creation of the album, Pabst repeatedly confronted himself with the question of what music can mean in a world that is constantly on fire and full of conflict. He was guided and inspired by a quote from Leonard Bernstein: “This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before”.  And so Pabst’s new compositions celebrate a very personal Rhythm Riot: a rhythmic protest that consciously sees music and creativity as a powerful antithesis to the dark and destructive tendencies of our society.
